‎The leadership and delegates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, and Oru-West Federal Constituency have commended Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Egwe Evans for his commitment to party development and grassroots mobilization during the party’s National Convention held on May 9, 2026.

‎The delegates, alongside party stakeholders from the three local government areas, also praised the leadership of the Imo State Chairman of the party, Barr. Reginald Uwakwe, for strengthening the NDC structure across the state and ensuring effective participation of Imo delegates at the historic convention.

‎The convention, which attracted major political figures from across the country, further underscored the growing national profile of the NDC, barely two months after its emergence on Nigeria’s political landscape.

‎Speaking during the event, the Chairman of NDC in Oguta LGA, Engr. Cliff Onwundu, described the successful conduct of the convention and the zoning of the party’s presidential ticket to the South as a demonstration of patriotism, fairness, and commitment to national unity.

‎According to him, the decision by the party’s national leadership has created a strong foundation for unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎“We thank God for the success of the convention and appreciate the efforts of the State Chairman, Barr. Reginald Uwakwe, Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans, and other leaders who made it possible for delegates from our constituency to participate actively,” he said.

‎Onwundu expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of the party, insisting that the NDC has rapidly become a major political force in the South-East and particularly in Imo State.

‎“NDC is gaining massive acceptance in the South-East, and in Imo State the momentum is evident everywhere. The people are embracing the party because of its message of inclusion, fairness, and people-oriented leadership,” he added.

‎The Oguta chairman further noted that the visibility of Imo delegates at the convention reflected the level of unity and organization within the state chapter of the party under the leadership of Barr. Uwakwe and the State Working Committee (SWC).

‎Also speaking, the Chairman of NDC in Oru-West LGA, Pastor Chris Obiefule, applauded the Imo State leadership of the party for building a strong grassroots structure across the 305 wards and 27 local government areas of the state.

‎He described Barr. Reginald Uwakwe is a grassroots political mobilizer whose leadership has given the NDC visibility and direction in Imo State.

‎Obiefule also highlighted the growing popularity of Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Egwe Evans within the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency, is described as one of the most visible and widely accepted aspirants ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election.

‎“We have credible aspirants who are prepared for the task ahead, especially Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans, whose grassroots connection and support base continue to expand across the federal constituency,” he stated.

‎Similarly, the Ohaji-Egbema LGA Chairman, Comrade Victor Azugwu, commended the impressive outing of Imo delegates at the convention, describing it as evidence of party unity, visibility, and organizational strength.

‎“With the level of visibility displayed by Imo delegates at the convention, it clearly shows that the party in the state is united, formidable, and growing stronger under the leadership of Barr. Reginald Uwakwe,” Azugwu said.

‎He noted that the introduction of some Imo aspirants at the convention venue, particularly from Imo West Senatorial District, further projected the state chapter of the party on the national stage.

‎Azugwu specifically referenced Hon. (Barr.) Chudi Egwe Evans for the Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru-West Federal Constituency, alongside other aspirants from the zone, described their recognition at the convention as a welcome development for the growth of the party in Imo State.

‎Political observers at the convention noted that Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans has continued to build strong grassroots support across the three LGAs through sustained engagement with party faithful, youths, women groups, and community stakeholders.

‎His increasing visibility within the NDC structure and active involvement in party mobilization efforts have positioned him among the leading contenders for the House of Representatives seat in the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.

‎In his remarks, Barr. Chudi Egwe Evans expressed appreciation to the delegates, party leaders, and supporters for their commitment to the growth of the NDC.

‎He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party leadership and pledged continued support for the vision of the NDC both at the state and national levels.

‎“We are committed to building a strong and united party with a solid grassroots foundation capable of winning elections and delivering democratic dividends to the people,” he said.

‎Barr. Chudi further stated that his aspiration is driven by the desire to provide effective representation and improve the welfare of constituents through human-faced policies and inclusive governance.

‎According to him, priorities such as youth empowerment, education, road infrastructure, job creation, and economic opportunities would remain central to his legislative agenda if elected to represent the constituency at the Green Chamber in 2027.

‎The National Convention also witnessed the presence of prominent political leaders across the country, including Peter Obi, leader of the Obedient Movement, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other notable political figures.

‎Their participation, analysts say, reflects the growing national relevance of the NDC and the expanding political momentum of the party across different regions of the country.
