Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his commitment to tackling insecurity through a combination of dialogue, inclusiveness, and decisive action against violent groups if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on the Nevon HQ podcast hosted by journalist and media personality Rufai Oseni, Obi outlined his approach to restoring peace and national unity while responding to questions on how he intends to address Nigeria's persistent security challenges.
According to Obi, his administration would prioritize negotiations with individuals and groups willing to embrace peace, while taking a firm stance against those who choose violence and threaten the country's stability.
"I'm going to talk with everybody. In uniting the country, anybody who wants peace, I will talk and negotiate with them. But anybody who wants war, we will go to war," Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor emphasized that the vision of a New Nigeria is built on inclusion, justice, and shared responsibility, noting that citizens willing to contribute positively would have a place in his administration.
"If you want to be part of this New Nigeria we are trying to build, that is possible, we can be together, but if not, you will face the consequence of your action," he said.
Obi further stressed that Nigeria has reached a critical moment where leaders must confront the country's realities with sincerity and fairness. He pledged that no region or group would be marginalized under his leadership, promising a government founded on equity, compassion, and national cohesion.
"We have got to a point where we have to tell ourselves the truth. Nobody will be left behind. There will be inclusiveness. We will show love and care for everybody," he added.
The remarks come as political parties and aspirants continue to articulate their policy positions ahead of the 2027 elections, with security, national unity, and economic recovery expected to dominate public discourse.
