Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has marked his 65th birthday with a ₦10 million donation to St. Raphael's Hospital, Umueri, in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, reaffirming his commitment to healthcare and humanitarian service.
Obi made the donation on Sunday after attending a Mass of Thanksgiving in Onitsha, choosing to forgo elaborate birthday celebrations in favour of supporting healthcare delivery for the benefit of the less privileged.
Speaking during the visit, the former Anambra State Governor said birthdays should serve as moments of reflection and an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to society rather than occasions for extravagant celebrations.
According to him, the greatest value of life lies not in personal achievements or material possessions but in the positive impact one makes in the lives of others.
"The greatest celebration of life is not what we receive, but the lives we touch," Obi said, adding that investing in hospitals and educational institutions remains the most effective way to build a prosperous and equitable society.
He stressed that quality healthcare and education are the foundations of national development and urged political leaders at all levels to prioritize investments that directly improve the welfare of citizens.
The ₦10 million donation is expected to strengthen medical services at St. Raphael's Hospital, a facility that serves residents of Umueri and neighbouring communities in Anambra State.
