‎Political analysts and observers have identified campaign funding and strategic political alliances as some of the potential challenges facing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

‎According to political commentators, financing remains one of the most critical factors in Nigeria's electoral process, alongside candidate credibility, grassroots support, and party structure. They argue that the ability to mobilize substantial resources often plays a significant role in determining electoral success.

‎Some analysts contend that Atiku's financial capacity may not be as strong as it was during previous election cycles. They point to developments surrounding some of his business interests over the years, including reports that he sold his stake in Intel in 2021 before contesting the People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary ahead of the 2023 general election.

‎Observers also note that the 2023 PDP presidential primary was highly competitive and resource-intensive, with several aspirants investing heavily in delegate mobilization and campaign activities across the country. Among them was the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, who finished second in the contest.

‎Attention has also been drawn to the role played by key political allies during Atiku's 2023 presidential campaign. Political commentators frequently mention former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who served as Atiku's running mate, and former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, who chaired the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), among those believed to have provided significant political and logistical support to the campaign.

‎While these assertions remain subjects of political debate, analysts argue that Atiku benefited from the backing of influential governors and political stakeholders who controlled substantial political structures within their respective states during the 2023 election cycle.

‎Some commentators have also referenced allegations concerning loans obtained by the Delta State Government during Senator Okowa's administration. However, such claims remain part of public political discourse and have not resulted in any judicial finding establishing that any such funds were used for campaign purposes.

‎Political observers maintain that one of the major challenges facing Atiku ahead of the 2027 election is the absence of serving governors within the ADC who possess the level of political influence and financial leverage that governors traditionally bring to presidential campaigns.

‎They argue that, unlike the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which controls several state governments, the ADC is still consolidating its national presence ahead of the next general election without a single sitting governor going into the general elections.

‎Analysts also note that the choice of a strategic running mate could become a crucial factor for the former vice president. They argue that securing a vice-presidential candidate with strong political networks, financial capacity, and electoral value may prove vital to the ADC's prospects in 2027.

‎Despite these concerns, supporters of Atiku insist that his decades of political experience, nationwide recognition, and extensive political network remain significant assets that could strengthen his campaign.

‎As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, analysts say the contest is likely to be shaped by a combination of candidate credibility, party strength, voter appeal, campaign financing, and strategic political partnerships.
