REMI TINUBU RECEIVES OSO DI EME I TITLE IN IMO, SEEKS SUPPORT FOR PRESIDENT’S 2027 RE-ELECTION

Owerri, Imo State- First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the traditional title of Oso Di Eme I of Imo State during her official visit to Imo State on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The title, which was announced by her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Busola Kukoyi, was translated as “She who supports her husband.” Kukoyi described the honour as recognition of the First Lady’s role as a partner to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the administration of the country.
The conferment took place during Mrs Tinubu’s visit to Owerri, where she participated in a women-focused empowerment programme and engaged with women and Catholic mothers in the state.
During the visit, the First Lady appealed to Nigerians, particularly women in the South-East, to support President Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
Addressing Catholic mothers, Mrs Tinubu urged them to pray for the President and expressed her desire to see Nigeria become a better country.
“Make una pray for Mr President abeg, but we go work for una and Nigeria will be better because I want to enjoy Nigeria in old age. I'm working for my old age; that's why we are doing all we are doing right now,” she said.
Her appeal was directed at the President’s 2027 re-election bid, rather than a November governorship election in Imo State.
The First Lady also participated in an empowerment programme for women in Imo State. According to reports, 500 women from each of the five South-East states are expected to benefit from the Federal Government’s programme, while Governor Hope Uzodimma provided additional empowerment items for 2,000 women in Imo, bringing the number of beneficiaries in the state to 2,500.
Mrs Tinubu subsequently announced an additional ₦100,000 cash support for each beneficiary of the empowerment programme in Imo State. She said the initiative was aimed at recognising the contribution of women to nation-building and supporting their economic development.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, who received the First Lady during the visit, commended her contributions to nation-building and her commitment to women's welfare.
Uzodimma also expressed support for President Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid, saying Imo people would stand behind the President and reciprocate what he described as the Federal Government's interventions in the state.
The First Lady's visit comes months after she received the Ugosimba I of Enugu chieftaincy title in June 2026 in recognition of her efforts towards women’s empowerment and social development.
