St. Michael and All Angels Church, Obudi Honours Pascal Uzomezie Major as "Ambassador of Peace"

OBUDI, OGUTA LGA, IMO STATE – St. Michael and All Angels Church, Obudi Agwa, under the Diocese on the Lake of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), has honoured Mr. Pascal Uzomezie Major with the title of "Ambassador of Peace" in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting peace and unity within the Agwa community.
The award was presented by the church's St. Barnabas Group during the 2026 St. Barnabas Day celebration held on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
According to the inscription on the award plaque, the honour was bestowed on Mr. Major in recognition of his "commitment to initiating peace in Agwa, a service to God and humanity."
The citation also referenced Matthew 5:9, which states: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God."
The award was endorsed by the Leader of the St. Barnabas Group, Mr. Isaiah Nweze; the Secretary, Mr. Donatus Ihejirika; the Chaplain, Rev. Timothy Ekechi; and the Vicar/Archdeacon, Ven. Uchenna Kalu Mba.
The recognition highlights Mr. Major's role in fostering dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence among members of the Agwa community—values the Anglican Church considers essential for sustainable community development.
Agwa community in Oguta Local Government Area has, over the years, witnessed periods of disagreements and communal tensions that required sustained peace-building efforts by traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders and concerned citizens.
The Anglican Church has consistently promoted reconciliation and unity through its various fellowships and organizations, with the annual St. Barnabas Day celebration providing an opportunity to recognize individuals whose lives exemplify Christian virtues of service, sacrifice and peace.
By conferring the title of "Ambassador of Peace" on Mr. Pascal Uzomezie Major, the church acknowledged his efforts in promoting harmony, strengthening community relationships and advancing peaceful coexistence.
Congratulating the award recipient, members of the St. Barnabas Group described the honour as recognition of selfless service rather than personal achievement, urging him to continue championing peace, unity and community development.
Community members also welcomed the recognition, noting that honouring peace advocates inspires others to embrace dialogue, tolerance and reconciliation in resolving disputes.
Observers said the award reflects the church's commitment to celebrating individuals whose contributions extend beyond the church into the wider society.
Mr. Pascal Uzomezie Major, a serving Police Inspector attached to the Imo State Police Command, has remained actively involved in community development and peace initiatives in Agwa. He has played a significant role in promoting unity and development in Umuezoka, where he facilitated the installation of solar-powered streetlights and a borehole water project.
He also played an active role in efforts to restore peace in Obudi during the community crisis and is currently one of the leading advocates for unity among the Old U-3 villages—Umuahii, Umuorinji and Umuahama—working to strengthen cooperation and peaceful coexistence among the three communities.
