Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent bandit attacks on Dangulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, describing the incidents as a painful reflection of the ongoing security challenges confronting communities across the region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Tambuwal strongly condemned the killings, destruction of property, and displacement of residents resulting from the attacks. He noted that the continuous targeting of innocent citizens remains unacceptable and poses a serious threat to peace and stability in the state.
The former governor said he was heartbroken by the violence unleashed on the community, stressing that repeated attacks on defenseless residents undermine efforts to promote security and development in affected areas.
Tambuwal extended his condolences to families who lost loved ones during the attacks and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured. He also sympathised with residents who were displaced or otherwise affected by the violence.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of those killed and urged divine comfort and strength for their grieving families. The senator further expressed hope for the safe return of individuals reportedly abducted during the assaults.
Expressing concern over the recurring nature of bandit attacks in parts of Sokoto State, Tambuwal called on security agencies to intensify operations aimed at restoring peace and safeguarding vulnerable communities, particularly along the Sokoto-Zamfara corridor.
According to him, citizens deserve to live and carry out their daily activities without fear of violence or intimidation. He therefore advocated sustained and coordinated strategies to address banditry and other emerging security threats in the region.
Tambuwal also urged residents to remain united and continue supporting lawful efforts geared towards ending insecurity and rebuilding peace in affected communities.
Reaffirming his commitment to initiatives that promote safety and security, the senator pledged continued support for measures aimed at protecting lives and property across Sokoto State and Nigeria as a whole.
The attacks reportedly began on Sunday, June 1, 2026, when heavily armed bandits riding motorcycles invaded Dangulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area. Witnesses said the attackers opened fire on residents, killing at least 17 people, including seven visitors who had travelled to the area for Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Several shops were reportedly looted during the raid, while many residents fled into nearby forests to escape the violence.
Barely 48 hours after the initial assault, another attack was reported in the same community in the early hours of Tuesday, with an unconfirmed number of residents feared killed.
The latest incidents add to a series of bandit attacks that have plagued communities across the area in recent months, resulting in deaths, abductions, and extensive destruction of property.
The renewed violence has prompted fresh calls from political leaders, community stakeholders, and residents for enhanced security deployments and more proactive measures to protect communities vulnerable to criminal attacks.
