BAUCHI, BAUCHI STATE — Newly appointed Wikki Tourists FC head coach, Abubakar Bala Mohammed, has expressed determination to rebuild the Bauchi-based football club and return it to the position it once occupied in Nigerian football.
Mohammed, who is taking charge of the club at a crucial stage of its development, acknowledged that the task ahead would not be easy but said he remained optimistic about achieving the desired objective with commitment, hard work and divine guidance.
“We will do everything possible to bring back Wikki Tourists FC to where they belong. It’s not an easy task, but with God, all things are possible,” the new gaffer said.
The coach’s statement comes as the club begins preparations for a new phase, with expectations high among supporters and football stakeholders in Bauchi State.
Wikki Tourists, popularly known as the Giant Elephants, have historically been one of the recognised football clubs from northern Nigeria. The club has enjoyed periods of success in the domestic league and has represented Nigeria in continental competitions, building a strong following in Bauchi and beyond.
However, the club has faced challenges in recent years, including difficulties in maintaining its position among Nigeria’s leading football sides. The appointment of Mohammed is therefore expected to usher in a fresh approach aimed at strengthening the team and restoring its competitive identity.
The new coach is expected to focus on building a disciplined and competitive squad capable of meeting the club’s ambitions. His approach will likely involve developing existing players, identifying emerging talents and creating a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level.
For supporters of the Giant Elephants, Mohammed’s arrival represents an opportunity for a new beginning. Many will be looking forward to seeing the club regain its place among the prominent names in Nigerian football.
The coach, however, appears aware that rebuilding the club will require patience and collective effort. Beyond technical preparation on the pitch, the process will require cooperation among the management, players, coaching staff, supporters and other stakeholders.
Mohammed’s declaration has consequently set an ambitious tone for his tenure as Wikki Tourists’ new gaffer. His immediate challenge will be to translate his words into results and build a team that can restore confidence among the club’s supporters.
With the backing of the club’s management and supporters, the new coach will hope to begin the rebuilding process and guide Wikki Tourists towards a return to national prominence.
