Adeleke Re-Elected Osun Governor With 66,252-Vote Margin

OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — Governor Ademola Adeleke has been re-elected Governor of Osun State after securing a decisive victory in the governorship election held across the state on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after the collation of results from the state’s 30 local government areas, declared Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes, securing him a second term in office. Multiple reports of the official declaration confirmed the figures announced after the completion of the state-wide collation.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced Adeleke as the duly elected governor at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo.
Adeleke contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, following his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and subsequent emergence as the Accord governorship candidate. He was seeking to retain the office he first won in the 2022 governorship election.
The election featured a competitive contest between the incumbent and Oyebamiji, with the APC candidate emerging as Adeleke’s closest challenger. According to the collated results, Adeleke secured victory across a majority of the state’s local government areas, enabling him to build a substantial overall lead.
Voting commenced across the state on Saturday, with INEC officials and security personnel deployed to polling units to oversee the electoral process. Reports from different parts of Osun indicated that voting generally proceeded without major disruptions, although the exercise attracted intense political interest.
Osogbo, the state capital, as well as other major population centres including Ilesa, Ede and Iwo, recorded significant voter participation during the election.
The conclusion of the election and subsequent declaration brought an end to the major electoral contest between Adeleke and Oyebamiji, with the incumbent now set to continue his administration for another four-year term.
Following his victory, Adeleke thanked the people of Osun State for renewing their confidence in his administration. He pledged to use the second term to consolidate his government's programmes, particularly in infrastructure, education, healthcare and youth employment.
The governor's victory has also generated reactions across the political landscape, with supporters celebrating the outcome while calling on the administration to deliver on its campaign promises.
The APC candidate, Oyebamiji, and leaders of the opposition party were also reported to have acknowledged the outcome and called for unity and stability as the state moves into another phase of governance.
Adeleke's re-election marks the continuation of his political leadership in Osun and gives his administration another opportunity to pursue its development agenda while responding to the expectations of residents across the state's three senatorial districts.
The election is also expected to have wider political implications ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections, particularly given Osun's strategic position in the South-West political landscape.
With the final results now declared, attention will shift from the electoral contest to governance, as the re-elected governor prepares to consolidate his administration's policies and programmes for the next four years.
