Fubara Receives Wike-Backed Rainbow Coalition Reconciliation Committee in Port Harcourt

PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE — Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has received members of the reconciliation committee of the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance associated with former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The meeting, held on Sunday at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt, is seen as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate the political reconciliation between Governor Fubara and Wike after months of intense political disagreement that significantly divided the Rivers political establishment.
The reconciliation committee was led by Senator Magnus Abe, Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and included other political stakeholders involved in the Rainbow Coalition.
The engagement comes against the backdrop of the recent rapprochement between Fubara and Wike, whose political differences had dominated public discourse in Rivers State and attracted national attention.
The dispute between the governor and his predecessor escalated after Fubara assumed office in 2023, with disagreements over political control, governance and the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of the state.
