Okonkwo: Tinubu Will Lose 2027 Presidential Election, Says Atiku’s ADC Campaign Spokesperson

ABUJA, Nigeria — Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the 2027 presidential campaign of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not secure re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
Okonkwo made the declaration during an interview on Symfoni TV, where he criticised the performance of the Tinubu administration and argued that the political circumstances ahead of the 2027 election favour the opposition.
The former Nollywood actor-turned-politician described the current administration as the worst in Nigeria’s history, citing what he portrayed as widespread dissatisfaction with the government and its policies.
According to him, the level of opposition to the administration would make it difficult for Tinubu to win the election without electoral manipulation.
Okonkwo further claimed that, in a free and fair contest, the President would struggle to secure victory across the states of the federation.
He contrasted the expected political landscape in 2027 with the 2023 presidential election, when the opposition parties contested the election without controlling state governments.
He argued that despite the absence of opposition governors at the time, the opposition was still able to mount a strong challenge against the then-ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okonkwo said the opposition is now in a stronger position and expressed confidence that the emerging political realignment would improve its chances in 2027.
He specifically pointed to the ADC as a platform capable of bringing opposition forces together and mounting a formidable challenge to the ruling party.
The ADC has increasingly positioned itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general election, with Atiku emerging as its presidential candidate following his movement into the party.
Okonkwo maintained that the political momentum surrounding Atiku's candidacy could translate into electoral victory, arguing that Nigerians dissatisfied with the current administration would support the opposition at the polls.
He said the route to victory for Atiku remained clear, expressing optimism that the former vice president would emerge victorious by the grace of God.
The ADC campaign spokesperson's comments come amid increasing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition parties and political figures intensifying consultations and mobilisation across the country.
The 2027 presidential contest is expected to feature a major battle between the ruling APC and opposition forces seeking to unseat Tinubu, who won the 2023 presidential election and assumed office on May 29, 2023.
While the President and his supporters have defended the administration's policies and reforms, opposition parties have continued to criticise the government over economic hardship, governance and other national issues.
Okonkwo's latest remarks therefore add to the growing rhetoric from opposition figures who believe the political environment is shifting in their favour ahead of the next presidential election.
However, the final outcome of the 2027 election will depend on the votes cast by Nigerians and the conduct of the electoral process.
