Rivers Youth Groups Back Pidomson, Okumgba Ahead of 2027

PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE — Youth groups across Rivers State are rallying support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, and his running mate, Hon. David Okumgba, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The latest show of support came from the Rivers Youths for Pidomson Movement (RYM), which visited Pidomson at his office in Port Harcourt on Thursday to express its commitment to his governorship ambition.
The group, led by its State Coordinator, Mr. Barilee Peter Yaale, said it would mobilise eligible young voters across the state in support of the Pidomson/Okumgba ticket.
Speaking during the visit, Yaale and other members of the group expressed confidence in the candidates, citing their personalities and vision for the development of Rivers State.
The youth mobilisation effort comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties, support groups and aspirants beginning to build grassroots structures across the state.
Responding to the delegation, Pidomson thanked the group for its support and assured the youths that their interests would receive greater attention under his administration if elected.
He identified education, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship as key areas through which his administration would create opportunities for young people.
Pidomson said the state needed an environment capable of enabling young people to acquire relevant skills, establish businesses and contribute meaningfully to the economy.
He also emphasised the importance of youth participation in the political process, particularly as young people constitute a significant segment of the electorate.
Also speaking at the meeting, former Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo, commended members of the youth movement for their participation in the democratic process.
Akarolo urged the youths to remain focused and peaceful as they pursue their political objectives ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said political participation should be driven by issues and the desire to contribute to the development of the state rather than violence or division.
Former Rivers State Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. John Bazia, also commended the group for its commitment to the Pidomson/Okumgba ticket.
Bazia urged the youths to maintain unity and continue engaging other young people across Rivers State as the political process gathers momentum.
The meeting ended with renewed commitments from the youth group to mobilise support for the ADC candidates and promote their political message across the state's communities.
With the 2027 general elections still ahead, various political interests in Rivers State are expected to intensify grassroots engagement and voter mobilisation as parties position themselves for the governorship contest.
