Wike Signals Confidence in Fintiri-Galadima Political Alliance Ahead of 2027 Adamawa Election

ABUJA/YOLA — The political contest ahead of the 2027 Adamawa State governorship election has taken another turn following a reported statement attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, expressing confidence in the electoral prospects of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Tijjani Ahmed Galadima.
Wike was reportedly quoted as saying that with his involvement, Galadima and Fintiri would be able to secure victory in Adamawa State, a claim that has drawn attention amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The reported comment comes against the backdrop of major political changes in Adamawa, where Governor Fintiri and other prominent political figures have been repositioning themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Galadima, a former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), emerged as the APC governorship candidate following the party's primary election in May 2026. Reports from the primary indicated that he secured 414,444 votes, defeating other aspirants, including Abdulrahman Haske and Abdulrazak Namdas.
The emergence of Galadima has placed him at the centre of the APC's strategy to challenge for control of Adamawa in 2027.
Governor Fintiri, who has since moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, has also become a major figure in the state's evolving political equation. His relationship with different political blocs is expected to remain significant as the party prepares for the governorship contest.
In May, Fintiri received Galadima at the Government House in Yola and reaffirmed the strength and unity of the APC in Adamawa. The governor said party members needed to work together to achieve electoral success in the 2027 elections.
Galadima has also presented himself as a candidate of continuity, promising to consolidate the achievements of the Fintiri administration if elected governor.
Speaking during a stakeholders' engagement in Yola, Galadima said he would prioritise security, education, healthcare, infrastructure and the empowerment of youths and women. He also praised Fintiri's administration and promised an inclusive government based on consultation and accountability.
The reported intervention by Wike could further intensify discussions about the role of political alliances and influential figures in determining electoral outcomes.
Wike has maintained a prominent position in national politics, particularly through his relationships with politicians across party lines. His reported confidence in the Adamawa political equation is therefore likely to attract attention as parties and candidates begin to strengthen their structures ahead of the polls.
However, political analysts and observers will ultimately assess the strength of the alliance based on its ability to translate elite support into grassroots mobilisation and voter acceptance.
The 2027 contest is also expected to feature competing interests within and outside the APC, making party cohesion, campaign organisation, candidate popularity and voter sentiment important factors.
For Galadima, the immediate challenge will be to consolidate the APC's structure across Adamawa's 21 local government areas and convince voters that his proposed continuity agenda represents the best path for the state.
While the reported statement attributed to Wike may boost the confidence of supporters, the final outcome of the election will be determined by voters at the polls.
With political realignments already underway, Adamawa is emerging as one of the states to watch closely as Nigeria moves towards the 2027 general elections.
